VEI Chart (Volcanic Explosivity Index)
You probably have read about the Richter Scale when you studied earthquakes in science class. The Richter Scale measures earthquake strength. You may have also studied the Fujita Scale, which measures the strength of tornadoes. Hurricanes also have a rating scale in which they are measured in categories. Volcanoes have a similar scale called the Volcanic Explosivity Index (VEI). This scale evaluates the strength and force of a volcanic eruption.
